Armies and Societies in A Dynamic World

September 5, 2024 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

This event has passed.

In this event for AHF members, Woolley will examine aspects of the impact of societal change on military organizations using examples from his book Creating the Modern Army: Citizen Soldiers and the American Way of War, 1919-1939

William Woolley graduated from Dartmouth College in 1959 with a degree in International Relations. He served four years in the Navy and then completed his master’s and doctor’s degrees in history at Indiana University in 1969 with specializations in Russia and Eastern Europe. He taught at Ripon College for thirty-one years before retiring in 2000. While there he developed his interest in American military history while teaching courses for the ROTC Department. His research led to a number of papers, articles, and, finally, his book, Creating the Modern Army: Citizen Soldiers and the American Way of War, 1919-1939.
